The World Congress of Imams and Rabbis for Peace

«The World Congress of Imams and Rabbis for Peace brings together Imams and Rabbis who formally seek to initiate rapprochement between Judaism and Islam. Three congresses have been held, in Brussels, January 2005, then in Seville, March 2006, and recently in Paris, UNESCO, in December 2008. These gatherings were attended by religious leaders, from over 43 countries, who are actively committed to the path of dialogue between their communities.

This website is dedicated to the different initiatives that were inspired by the meetings.»

The World Congress of Imams and Rabbis calls for the end of the hostilities between Israel and Gaza

World Congress of Imams and Rabbis for Peace
Call of 7 January 2009

Imams and Rabbis, wherever they are, commit themselves to organising prayer sessions to call for peace and universal brotherhood.

We call for an immediate stop to rocket launches on the south of Israel and to bombings and combat in Gaza so as to protect thousands of innocent lives, allow victims to have access to humanitarian aid and to establish conditions needed for the resumption of the peace process.

We call upon all the Palestinian leaders and the Government of Israel to return to the path of dialogue immediately.

H.E. Maitre Abdoulaye Wade, addresses the Third World Congress of Imams and Rabbis for Peace

His Excellency Abdoulaye Wade,
President of the Republic of Senegal and President of the Eleventh Session of the Islamic Summit Conference
President of the Committee of Honour of Hommes de Parole Foundation
honoured the Third World Congress of Imams and Rabbis for Peace by attending the meeting.

After being elected President of Senegal in 2000, he implemented his noble ideas for unity and peace in West Africa and for sustainable development. His actions, furthermore, have been recognised internationally. Among the many awards he received, let us mention the Henry Sylvester William gold medal for African renaissance, in 2003, and on 16 May 2006, at Unesco, he received the 2005 Félix Houphouët-Boigny award for his efforts to secure peace. The award was bestown by the Unesco Director General and the President of the Jury, Henry Kissinger, former U.S. Secretary of State and holder of the Nobel Peace Prize. We wish to recognise that the opening session of the Congress was addressed by a great artisan of peace

Testimony and Preparations for the Third Convoy for Peace in Gaza including demonstration for peace in Sderot

For the First Convoy for Peace organised by the Hommes de Parole Foundation, we went to Gaza and saw the after-effects of war. We saw miles of unearthed land, uprooted trees, ruins and rubble mixed with kitchen utensils, cloths and broken toys, all silent signs of daily life in shatters.

The second Convoy for Peace arrived in Gaza

On Wednesday February 18 in the afternoon trucks of the second Convoy for Peace arrived in Gaza.

CONVOY FOR PEACE: SDEROT – GAZA

The Third Congress of Imams and Rabbis for Peace, held at Unesco headquarters in Paris, from 15 to 17 December last, focused on the Israel-Palestine confict and was entitled "The Sacredness of Peace". Following the Congress, a final declaration was issued, together with an action plan that formally engaged the participants to work in depth and tangibly for peace.

The participants, thus, were impelled to react to the spiral of violence in Gaza and the south of Israel where violent clashes are taking place with, alas, the main victims being civilians.

Further to the commitment made by the spiritual leaders during the Congress and further to the increasing violence, the decision was taken that a "Convoy for Peace" would be organised, together with other partners.
