Jewish and Muslim religious leaders as well as Christians from the Holy Land are committed to religious peace in the Middle East!
On September 21st 2007, the World Congress of Imams and Rabbis for Peace launched an operation naming 2008 the “year of reconciliation between Israelis and Palestinians”. This call for religious peace was politically echoed two months later at the Annapolis conference in November 2007.
Since then, many Muslim and Jewish religious leaders have expressed the necessity and interest in the organization of a third congress dedicated to peace in Israel/Palestine. The aim of the congress is to come to a common religious vision of peace. The theme for the conference is, therefore, “the sacredness of peace”.
From the 15th to the 17th of December, in the presence of Mr. Abdoulaye Wade, President of Senegal and President of the Organization of Islamic Conference, the Hommes de Parole Foundation and UNESCO are bringing together 85 participants, including religious
dignitaries as well as international experts from 23 different countries (Israel, Palestine, Syria, Lebanon, Iran….). The participants will be meeting behind closed doors to discuss a common religious vision for peace in Israel and Palestine. This opportunity is coming at an exceptional time due to the current political climate (impending elections in Israel and
Palestine as well as the transition in the US administration).
This Congress, following those in Brussels and Sevilla, has the aim of advancing decisions and commitments of religious leaders in order to reach a Peace agreement for Israel and Palestine.

The Third Congress of Imams and Rabbis for Peace, held at Unesco headquarters in Paris, from 15 to 17 December last, focused on the Israel-Palestine confict and was entitled "The Sacredness of Peace". Following the Congress, a final declaration was issued, together with an action plan that formally engaged the participants to work in depth and tangibly for peace.
The participants, thus, were impelled to react to the spiral of violence in Gaza and the south of Israel where violent clashes are taking place with, alas, the main victims being civilians.
Further to the commitment made by the spiritual leaders during the Congress and further to the increasing violence, the decision was taken that a "Convoy for Peace" would be organised, together with other partners.
