Face 2 Face

The purpose of the Face2Face project is to make huge-format portraits of Palestinians and Israelis who share the same profession and post them side by side in very busy, popular places in both the Israeli and Palestinian sides.  The project started after the visit of Middle East cities to try to understand why Palestinians and Israelis could not find a way of getting along together. After a week, JR and Marco, the authors, come to the conclusion with the same words:

"these people look the same; they speak almost the same language, like twin brothers raised in different families. A religious covered woman has her twin sister on the other side. A farmer, a taxi driver, a teacher, has his twin brother in front of him. And he his endlessly fighting with him. It's obvious, but they don't see that. We must put them face to face. They will realize".

Sheikh Abdul Aziz Bukhari and Mr Eliyahu Mclean, members of the World Congress of Imams and Rabbis for Peace, have participated in the project Face2Face.

This action is consistent with their work at the Jerusalem Peacemakers Centre which they manage together. (www.jerusalempeacemakers.org)

"Face2Face was another channel to express the meaning of the separation wall. In a funny way, this is a way we can reach some of the people who are willing to express their thoughts in non-violent acts. And also to reach out to the people who are tired of hearing about dramatic and bad news. The faces on the separation wall made people stand and look and wonder; It is a way to laugh at the wall because it reminds them of the Berlin wall, and that one day this wall will come down. But in reality, we have a higher wall among the people who live in this region which is dividing the children of Abraham from on another and this wall is more difficult to take down as long as there is conflict. We hope with this project we can help to bring this greater wall between the children of Abraham down. As you see in some of the pictures, there are faces of the Abrahamic children, Muslims and Jews and Christians. As we are united in those pictures, one day the Abrahamic family will be united too, and the peace will be revealed on earth in the name of the almighty God."
