Out of concern for maintaining total neutrality of action, the Hommes de Parole Foundation has developed a policy, or network, of partnership that allies engagement, diversity and complementarity.
This network provides funding and/or expertise: foundations that bring in financial support and expertise in matters of dialogue between cultures, businesses that contribute theur strength of action through economic channels, associations that put their know-how, including their political dimension as representatives of the civil society, at the service of peace.
“Events of recent years have heightened the sense of a widening gap and lack of mutual understanding between Islamic and Western societies -- an environment that has been exploited and exacerbated by extremists in all societies. The Alliance of Civilizations is intended as a coalition against such forces, as a movement to advance mutual respect for religious beliefs and traditions, and as a reaffirmation of humankind’s increasing interdependence in all areas -- from the environment to health, from economic and social development to peace and security.”
The European Union respects and promotes the universal principles as laid down in the Universal Declaration on Human Rights and its complementary International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights and International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights. The Union’s activities are also based on the main international and regional instruments for the protection of human rights, including the European Convention on Human Rights. These instruments enshrine common values regarding fundamental freedoms and democratic principles, which are universal, indivisible and interdependent. Respect for these values is a condition for efficient development in any society.

The meeting of imams and rabbis for peace is a most praiseworthy initiative. First of all because it is a unique dialogue, considering the complementary reality, with all parties discovering their germane values.
Together, you must convey a strong message asserting that reconciliation and peace are only possible if people get to know each other better. Education, which is an initiation to cultures, religions, ways of thinking and living, thus, is at the heart of the dialogue, not only in Europe but all over the world, especially in the Middle East. This dialogue authorises the assertion and recognition of the fact that the civilisation of good and evil is not the only civilisation, that dialogue must be rooted in reciprocity, equality and solidarity, without ideological prejudices or ulterior motives.
UNESCO stands with you in this project and will join you on this road to peace..
“For over two centuries our family has maintained an ongoing dedication to the promotion of understanding and dialogue. We believe in the mutual enrichment of Judaism and Islam in linking tradition with progress and sharing a universal respect for human dignity.”

A fundamental challenge facing every society is to create political, economic and social systems that promote peace, human welfare and the sustainability of the environment on which life depends. We believe that the best way to meet this challenge is to encourage initiatives by those living and working closest to where problems are located; to promote collaboration among the nonprofit, government and business sectors; and to ensure participation by men and women from diverse communities and at all levels of society. In our experience, such activities help build common understanding, enhance excellence, enable people to improve their lives and reinforce their commitment to society.

Edmond J. Safra was a legendary philanthropist who supported thousands of students, underwrote medical research, built and restored schools and synagogues as well as churches and mosques, endowed professorships, and contributed to countless humanitarian, religious, educational, and cultural causes worldwide. The Elijah Interfaith Academy is an inter-religious Think-tank, serving world religious leaders in reflecting upon issues of contemporary society and the role of religion in it. A board of world religious leaders was formed in Seville last year and several of its members will attend the Brussels meeting. The background paper prepared by the Elijah Academy for the Imams and Rabbis for Peace congress fits well with its mission of providing inter-religious research and position papers to world religious leadership and to the broader public, through its educational network. While the vision of the Interfaith Academy includes study of all major world religions, it is honoured to be involved in this Jewish-Muslim project, in service of world peace.
