The World Congress of Imams and Rabbis for Peace declares “2008 to be the year of Peace Initiatives for Reconciliation between Israelis and Palestinians”.

From 21 September 2007 to 31 December 2008, The World Congress of Imams and Rabbis for Peace undertakes and supports Peace Initiatives for Reconciliation between Israelis and Palestinians. Citizens from all over the world who desire and want peace are invited to join this action.

The Mobilization of The World Congress of Imams and Rabbis for Peace

The Israeli-Palestinian conflict has been going on for 60 years. 60 years of war, mutual destruction and violence. Agreements, memorandums, declarations and road maps : negociations are still in a blind alley. Despite their efforts, political leaders and governments are unable to settle the conflict alone. And yet, the vast majority of Palestinians and Israelis long to live in peace. Peace needs strong mobilisation of populations all around the world. The World Congress of Imams and Rabbis for Peace, brought together religious ministers from 43 countries, who declare "2008, Year of Peace Initiatives for reconciliation between Israelis and Palestinians".

From September 2007 to December 2008, they :

Pledge to participate in, initiate and communicate actions based on dialogue and brotherhood in favour of reconciliation between Israelis and Palestinians; 

Invite peace-seeking people of the world, believers and non-believers, to join them in this endeavour;

This initiative is far from taking positions, arbitration and judgements, this is testimony of support and an ear to listen to the sufferings, fear and aspirations of these two kindred peoples, who have been coexisting for 60 years. It will be an opportunity for citizens the world over to show their support for Israeli-Palestinian peace efforts and mutual forgiveness, for this is the only way to genuine peace.

During more than a year, initiatives of thousands of people and associations from all over the world will be presented on this website (see section 'actions and initiatives').
